A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. HOUSTON E. "BUDDY" STUCKEY FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO MISSISSIPPI DIXIE YOUTH BASEBALL AND THE DIXIE YOUTH BASEBALL, INC., ORGANIZATION.
WHEREAS, Mr. Houston E. "Buddy" Stuckey, a resident of Columbia, Mississippi, will be honored on March 20 and 21, 1999, for his 37 years of outstanding service to Mississippi Dixie Youth Baseball and the Dixie Youth Baseball, Inc., organization; and
WHEREAS, throughout his 37 years of dedicated service to the Mississippi Dixie Youth Baseball, Mr. Stuckey has served as the State Director for the last 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stuckey has devoted his time and tireless efforts to more than 23,000 young people that embody more than 150 Dixie Youth Baseball leagues of the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stuckey was on active military duty four years and served in the United States Navy in World War II and remained on active reserve until his retirement in 1965 after 20 years of service; and
WHEREAS, as a member of the Bunker Hill Baptist Church for over 60 years, Mr. Stuckey has served on many committees at the church and worked with the youth of the church; and
WHEREAS, in 1957, Mr. Stuckey joined the Columbia Exchange Club which sponsored the Dixie Youth Baseball and he began to volunteer his time to the baseball organization; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stuckey has held various leadership positions with the Dixie Youth Baseball organization, including President of the Dixie Youth Ball League in 1959, District Director of District Five in 1962 and State Director for Mississippi in 1969, a position he has held for 30 years; and
WHEREAS, in 1974, Mr. Stuckey and several community leaders applied for a charter to begin Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department, where he has served as a member of the board of directors during several years and is currently serving as vice president of the board; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stuckey is a 33rd Degree Mason of the Carley Lodge, a Shriner, a former Marion County Circuit Clerk, a former trustee for Bunker Hill High School and a commissioned deputy of the Marion County Sheriff's Department, where he supervises a work crew consisting of prisoners incarcerated on DUI charges; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stuckey has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his lovely wife, Bobbie, and their two sons, Dewayne and Keith; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding Mississippians as Mr. Houston E. "Buddy" Stuckey, who has devoted his life to providing the young people of this state with an outstanding baseball program:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Mr. Houston E. "Buddy" Stuckey for his many years of outstanding service to the Mississippi Dixie Youth Baseball program and extend to him our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Houston E. "Buddy" Stuckey and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
